A little humor is always a good thing!

Heyo Mama!

 

This week we had a lot of lessons and a lot of service! Also we had a lot of dinner appointments! The members really really really likes us and Sister Passey and I think they are attached to us. I love it here in South Shore. It is the little things like a smile on their face, a simple laugh, and their warm hugs. I just love the people.

We have had few miracles that had happened.

 

So we normally play basketball and softball with our investigator, V and our Less Active, C. We felt like we should just watch "The Testament" with them. We knocked on their door in our dresses and when they opened the door they were surprised to see us in our dresses. We said, "We have a movie for you!" They were excited to watch it. C then invited one of her nonmember friends who live with her to watch the movie with us and she joined. They all cried during the movie. The spirit was so strong. The part when the man became blind, L, "He needs the Savior!" Yes he does! It was incredible and Sister Passey and I bore our testimonies. It was a cool experience.

 

We had planned a member present goal the night before but we didn't have a lesson plan for the next day. But we were on our way to see an investigator for the second time. She has been taught by other missionaries but then she went on trips and new missionaries came in and we never got her address. The other missionaries who have taught her asked us if we have been teaching this Family and we said no because we didn't have information. Now we do, we texted her and asked if we can drop some cookies off. She responded saying we can go into her home and teach her. We were on our way and we saw Sister Wilcox in her car and we both pulled over. She asked if we can go to her home. We responded saying that we have a lesson and we asked her if she want to join us in the lesson. She said, "Follow me to my house." She dropped her car off and hopped into our car. The lesson with the mother and her daughter was incredible. The spirit was so strong in there. Sister Wilcox was amazing sharing her testimony. So our goal for a member present was accomplished!!

Yesterday our other investigators came to church and they still asked tough questions but after church the woman started asking questions about the difference between the church and the temple. We sat with them and showed them all kinds of pictures of the temple. We told them what the temple is like. It was cool and their hearts were softened. We think they won't be baptized till a year because of a lot of reasons. They have come a long way but I have seen so many changes within them since the first time I met them.

Guess what!?!? We finally got in touch with our deaf investigator. Reason why is because she has this allergy reaction to her medication so she was swollen and has a rash all over her body and didn't want us to see her looking like that. So finally she feels better and we are able to teach her again. She loves learning about the gospel. Keep praying for her so she can have that desire to come to church. I know it will bless her life.

On Thursday we are meeting with our new President, President Reynolds and his wife. So we are excited. I love the Calderwoods very much but the Lord needs them somewhere else. I am ready for the new President. Then I have an interview with President Reynolds.

 

Elder Prince, who is in charge of cars told me that I had to drive, so I drove one time this week for the day. I   drove on the freeway and all! It wasn't that bad. I'm proud of myself   :)

Yes, President asked us to clean our Facebook so we were in there for a short time. Then we just got informed last Tuesday that there are now more rules, so they will send us more booklets and not go on facebook till like August or September..... They just want us to be more prepared with everything. 

 

 

So I recognize God's miracles more often. It's amazing when we start to think about all the blessing God has given to us and it just opens our eyes more. I saw God's most beautiful creations this past week. We were driving. The rain just stopped and we witnessed a double rainbow and it was incredible. Like how does the rainbow appear in the sky? It was a witness that Heavenly Father is real and His powers is beyond amazing! Then we just witnessed the most beautiful sunset ever created! It was like thick clouds with Gold and white coloring, it was something I can't describe. Many people came outside to take a picture, we all couldn't help but smile, the sunset helped us to talk with people and get to know them. They were taken away by the beauty of the sky. It was a true manifestation of God's mighty power. In Alma 30:44 it really does testify of God's creations, "The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." How can I deny the power of God? How can we all deny that?

Fun in the Sun!

Hey mama!

This past week has been the most stressful week, but there have been many good things which have  been a blessing to me.

This past week started with an Ear infection for three days. It was hard to talk, eat, open my mouth, it all hurt  my ear. Now it's better.

We had so many lessons planned for Wednesday and all  of the lessons were canceled on Wednesday and our Sorenson to talk with deaf people kept shutting down and we were so frustrated but I was so grateful for bad experiences because it helped me to learn, grow, and progress. I am thankful for the hardships and trials I have received in order to help me become more humble and allow The Lord to mold me into something beautiful. The Lord said, "Know thou, my (daughter) that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good."

On Thursday, we got the opportunity to do service for this man who lives next to the bishop with the youth. It was definitely a humble experience for me and for some of the people there. This man was coming to church and would always talk with the bishop and one day he disappeared. He came back home and the bishop was like, "Hey! What's up? We missed you!" He explained that his mother had a heart attack that he had to take care of her for couple months. I not sure what happened to his dad. So during the time he was gone the yard was destroyed with leaves and trash. The big pool was destroyed too with leaves and mud. So we cleaned up the yard and the pool. After the service, we pretty much smelled like poo. But this man was very grateful and had a smile on his face this whole time. I was happy to see him happy.

On Friday,  Sister B wanted to make us a Puerto Rico dinner and it was good. She made cod fish, rice with octopus, and vegetables.  She loves to tease me. One time I went over to her place and she was telling me that I need to find way to look older. She begged me to have my hair up. So I had my hair up for dinner. She asked where were my glasses.... Oh brother... She was so proud of me having my hair up for dinner! So was I haha. She also teased me of my blonde moments during dinner. She said she likes to go fishing and I was like that is soooo cool! Then she responded, "yes I go to the ocean and say, "fish jump on my plate, the octopus jumped on my plate, the lobster jumped on my plate." I was like wow and after a minute, I realized she was teasing. She just laughed and laughed. She already made me promise that I have to keep in touch with her and visit her a lot in the near future. She is such an amazing woman with light. She has gone through so much and yet she is strong.  She really wants to go to the temple for her first time and be able to feel her passed son's love and peace again and so we are working with her. She is my absolute favorite person to be with and you will know why when you meet her.

We decided to visit with another lady. We left our house and it was pouring rain! We couldn't see out of our windshield and Sister Passey was like, "Do you want to go to the church and make phone calls instead?" But I had a strong feeling that we needed to visit her so I said that we had to visit her. The whole drive there, Sister Passey was feeling more calm and kept on driving and the rain stopped where she could see. We parked in front of her house, the rain started up again and we got to the door and we are just two poor sister missionaries outside getting soaked from head to toe. She saw how soaked we were and invited us in. As soon as she allowed us in, the rain stopped. She sat us down and asked questions about the church. We taught her the basics of the gospel and the spirit was definitely there and she was a super happy upbeat person. She has great potential in herself. When we walked out, the rain started up again and we were ready for another miracle. We thanked Heavenly Father for the rain!

We also felt prompted to see another woman and we showed up at an awkward moment. We showed up the same time she got home. We were nervous but we had to be the annoying normal missionaries haha. We yelled, " Hi!" Before she got into her house. We asked if we could visit and she said yes. We had a nice conversation and she asked us to come back next week so we are so excited!

We visited another sister who is less active. She has a calling in the relief society as a teacher. She only comes when she teaches. So she has been preparing her talk for 4 weeks and she was actually smiling and laughing with us when we were there. That is a big change from when I first met her. She was so excited to give her talk the next day.  So the next day came along. She started teaching. We had a high councilor come in and just join. He gave few short great comments and then 15 minutes into her lesson and she was doing good, this high councilor gets up and told her to sit down and he just pretty much tough the whole lesson.  I was like what the heck. She never got to share her experiences or a video she had planned. She got up and left the room and two relief society members left with her and tried to comfort her. Afterward these ladies told this high councilor how he made her feel. He said, "I felt inspired to do that." Maybe he did feel inspired but I felt so bad for this sister. All the things she had prepared for went down the trash. Especially when she is trying to come back to church and now she feels like she not good enough. I pray for understanding and peace. This high councilor felt bad about what happened. Hopefully everything will be ok.

I learned that each of us has Gifts from God. Our patriarchal blessing tells us what gift we have. Yesterday in Sunday school I just learned that I have so many gifts that I didn't know I had.  It was so amazing to open my eyes and try to find ways to develop them. My favorite gift is the gift of faith. I have had so many blessing that come from trying to develop the gift of faith. I am really grateful and blessed that I have that gift. I want to challenge you to find that gift that God has given you and strive to develop it. I promise you that you will bless the kingdom of God more by developing the gift that you have within you.

One thing that Sister Lee taught me was to smile and laugh through everything that has been going on. She has influenced me big time. I haven't cried since I arrived to South Shore. I smile and whenever something bad happens I can't cry. I don't know how. But inside of me is exhausting but I am pushing forward. I just want someone to hug me and tell me that everything will be fine and that I need to keep going.

Dear Mom,

 

On Friday night we had a lot of miracles! We decided to pass out ASL flyers as a district and do a competition. When we do a competition, we actually have fun and work harder haha. We were passing out a bunch of flyers! We talked with a lot of people and enjoyed getting to know each other! Someone posted about the ASL class on Facebook right on the spot. I kept feeling prompted to go a specific direction and meet some people who said they learned sign language and wanted to look for a class! Someone even called us about ASL class and Sister Passey and I screamed! It was so much fun!

 

 

 

 

So about my birthday, it was so much fun! The missionaries in my district asked me to bring my present from you to church at 7am. I opened the package. I loved the outfits you sent me. They all fit pretty good! I love the other things too! Thank you so much! Then we cleaned the church and had breakfast at Country Kitchen.

 

 

 

Our deaf investigators invited us over for lunch. They gave me the sweetest card and a big fat hug. I loved it. They made us hotdogs with special New York style topping  and corn and ice cream. Then we helped her with family history and we are making a lot of progress!  Afterward, we had ice cream with Keara and Dallin Wilcox at Ralph's. It was really nice and relaxing and enjoyable. Dallin reminds me SOOO much of Brandon. They act so similar and I just feel the spirit so strong around him.

 

Then we went over to the Rosario Family's place for dinner. The Rosario Family is like the best family ever! We asked Brother Rosario if we can sit on a side of the table and he said yes. Sister Rosario came out and said,"NO!" We were like um.... What? Then she said, "Sister Moore has to sit where the princess cup is!" (The princess cup is a big kid cup with a princess on it) we laughed so hard. We just talked about their life. Sister Rosario said, "When my sister was on her mission, people there would send us pictures and video so I want to try that with you." So that happened. Can you send me the videos and pictures? I want to watch too! They also made my favorite meal! Spaghetti and Garlic bread! Yummy!!

 

 

 

 

Then we went home and found out our door got heart attacked by the sister missionaries! I definitely felt a lot of love on my birthday!

So I have seen Satan working so hard on us. Now it's our time to fight against him,  but I hope the investigators can fight against him too. I have faith! Yesterday was a stressful day! We just wanted to go home and crash!

 

Last Monday,  we were skyping with one of our investigators. We were talking about baptism and church and how badly she wanted to get baptized and how she knows the church is true. I felt a strong prompting to give her a baptism date. She looked off the camera and told her boyfriend about the baptism date and he must have told her something that made her hang up. We haven't been in contact since. One interesting thing is that I never regret giving her a baptism date. He and her two sons did not support her getting baptized so it has been hard for her and so we are going to back off and pray for her!

 

Elder Clair is my new district leader. He is an ASL missionary so that is a blessing for all of us. We finally have a priesthood holder to sign the baptism and sacrament. It's funny because I met him at the MTC. 

 

On the bright side! We had a baptism yesterday. Sister Passy used to teach him and I taught him one lesson but then a member was causing drama about us teaching the guy and not her so we passed them off to the elders. So he got baptized :)

 

 

Miranda, my recent convert, moved to Texas! :(  but here is what Sister Layton said about her, "Oh, Miranda moved :(((( to Texas." We are so sad, but so happy for her.  Honestly, we are just happy we had the privilege of knowing her and helping her receive the restored gospel. She taught me so much! I think Texas will be SO good for her, temporally and spiritually. Her family has a summer
home there, so her mom and brother are coming from China for the summer, as well as her aunt and uncle. She also got accepted to a new high school down there, which is great, because her host family here was..... Well, they were very rude people. We called the missionaries in Texas with her, and
guess WHAT! There are two recent converts preparing to go on missions who are Chinese! I think Miranda about passed out she was so happy. I, myself, was ecstatic! This means they can teach her mom and brother too! Yayyyyyy! It was so sad to help her pack and say goodbye, but you know what, I am going to keep in contact with her  :)" So many miracles are happening!!

I am so grateful to be here in this mission. I feel like  South Shore is really helping  me grow up. The Chinese program helped me to speak the language. The English program is helping me become a better missionary. I am looking forward to the future. It's seems bright to me.  It's crazy. I love this gospel so much!

Heyo!!!

This week went good. 

 

Guess what! We visited a less active on Wednesday at a place that grooms animals.  She told us to come back Friday to help out at her place which means.... I got to be around animals again. So I held a wet feisty cat down while she got the cat blow dried and shaved. I got to blow dry and brush a few dogs and we became like best friends. Then she gained her trust with me and had me do more stuff. I love animals!!!! I was lucky to get to know her. She reminds me so much of Traci and I know without a doubt that if we keep helping her out at her job she will recognize God's love more. She also has a boyfriend who is a musician and gave us his CD for free. She had a friend working there a couple time a week. He is very Christian and always so happy. I really liked getting to know him. He owns a studio and is a musician. He wants me to come over and play a little drum in the studio haha. Both of them love to sing so I feel like the groomers is a great place for a concert. It's fun! It's cool to see their perspective on life and I have a good feeling about those two.

One of my investigators from Flushing texted me and said she wanted to get baptized.  Sister Lee and I started teaching her. She is really cool! She has gone through so much to get here. Now Sister Lee and Wang are teaching her. I kept in touch with her through the phone. We are pretty much good friends. She is going on a trip to Utah July 28-August 7 and she wants to get baptized in Utah. I don't know if that is possible. But everyone (Elder Johnson, Sister Lee, and Sister Wang) will be home in Utah. If that is possible, I will skype in. Sister Lee and Wang will keep in touch with me about that. But my heart dropped when I heard that. She changed a lot!

On Saturday we taught our couple again. We brought a lady who is pro in Family History.  We got them  to write all the information on one piece of paper. They came to church yesterday and we taught them faith. We did an object lesson which was pretty cool. You get a big ziplock bag and fill it half way with water. Then you get a super sharp pencil. Put the bag over a person's head. "Do you have faith?" Everyone was nervous. So we poked the pencil in the bag, and no water comes out. After 7 pencils poked through, we explained that there are some things we don't understand but at the end, it always works out. We gain truthfulness and faith by experiences that we have in this daily life.

The husband later admitted that he was feeling something and he felt calm and peaceful. I knew the spirit touched his heart. But his wife keep saying, "but..." She wants proof but I can see from the first time I met her to now... She is progressing slowly. Keep praying for her.

 

I love South Shore. I feel like I've changed a lot personally. It's amazing to see the Lord's Hands in my life everyday.
 

Spiritual thoughts: Live each day. Stop looking in the past, stop looking in the future. Live today.  When we get caught up in the past or in the future we will look back and regret the time we could have had. The opportunity that we missed wouldn't be missed anymore as well. Thomas S. Monson said, "Send that note to the friend you’ve been neglecting; give your child a hug; give your parents a hug; say “I love you” more; always express your thanks. Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved. Friends move away, children grow up, loved ones pass on. It’s so easy to take others for granted, until that day when they’re gone from our lives and we are left with feelings of “what if” and “if only.” Said author Harriet Beecher Stowe, “The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone.”" I know what Thomas S. Monson said is true. I know that if I live today and focus on my mission more, then I feel more success and happiness.

 

Thanks for the birthday wish. I don't believe that I will be 20. I feel like I am turning 16. Yes I still have my baby face haha. I will get the birthday box as soon as I can.

  

 

FOOD!!!

 I can't believe Ashley planned to go on a mission! She will do awesome!! That call was so inspired especially if her father served there. What language do they speak? I remember right before I left Ashley wanted to do a Navuoo performance mission kind of thing where she is a missionary but can perform still. I know the decision she has made will forever bless her life. She has that strong faith and testimony and I know others need her and I know she will become a strong and more beautiful daughter of God.

Oh no about Dawson! How did he lose his hearing aid? Can he hear without it?? I will pray for him!

I am so proud of you mom for sharing your testimony. It's an amazing thing of how the spirit works through you and can touch the lives of other people. I know that when we recognize God's hands in our life, we feel more gratitude and more joy like how you felt yesterday.
 

I can't believe that Jace is home! How is he doing so far? It went by so fast. Now Aunt Lisa just informed me that Nathan is working on his papers! Wow! Can't believe this!

I am feeling better. Still having a headache but more energy. My sore throat and mucus left. My cough is clearing up. I started taking MMF again and am feeling better.

We still have the same deaf people. 3 deaf members. 4 deaf investigators, 2 less active deaf we are working with. Oh, there is a family who attends church in Brentwood not too far from here. They have a daughter who is deaf and knows ASL. Their bishop is going to talk to them about coming to South Shore. We are still looking but the work is still slow. Keep praying for them all! I think to make a branch you must have a family with a  Melchizedek Priesthood holder.

I am sorry you can't make it to Sister Lee's homecoming, but I understand.  One thing I love about Sister Lee was that every night before going to bed, she would say, "Sister Moore, I love you and you're awesome." I miss hearing those simple words because they changed me in so many ways. I hope Sister Lee and I can develop our friendship further after the mission.

 

Sister Johnson has been such an amazing friend to me.  I went and saw her last week.  She is like my mission hero!

Hey Mama,

 

This week is the last week of transfer. I can't believe time went by so fast.

 

Yes we went to the Mets game on Monday. It was so good to see everyone there. I love talking with Sister Wang! She is hilarious. 

 

 

 

 

So about my health. I am still coughing. Funny thing was, I was reading  my Preach My Gospel books and it said, "more important than speaking is listening" and I prayed to God to help me develop that and then I lost my voice for about 3 days. We talked with the mission nurse and she said it's part of the allergies thing with the seasons changing and living in a new area. She said that it's spreading around the mission. I think I get my tiredness and headache from eating bread. I skip a few days without bread and I feel so much better. I have been doing the Isgenix and MMF again and I feel a lot better. I also got a blessing So it's better than last week. I think my body just can't deal with unhealthy food. 

 

The other night, I was praying.... I started to pray in sign language. I felt the spirit so strong. I felt like I was actually talking to Heavenly Father through my prayer in sign language so that is really cool to feel the changes and all!

 

One night during my prayers, I found that during my prayer I have made a covenant with God to give my service to Him with all of my heart, might, mind, and strength for the rest of my mission and life. When I give my service to my fellowmen I give my service to God and I am much happier this way. I started thinking about how can I still give service after my mission and full of ideas came to me and it was like inspirations so I am excited to see what happens after the mission but for now I am focusing on my mission. One cool thing I experienced was  I was reading Dieter Utchdorf talks about regrets and resolution. And I love the story he told about how he is his wife love to bike but Utchdorf wanted to race and push himself above the limit and get to the finish line. His wife said, "Utchdorf,it's not a race, it's a journey...enjoy the moment." We all get so busy at looking in the future at the finish line when we should be focusing on today and enjoying those around us. Are we giving our time to be with those we love and should be with?

 

Nothing new really happened this week. Our deaf investigators are still on a stable line and Sister Passey and I are trying to figure out how we can help them progress and improve to become more like Christ. Some still ask really tough overwhelming questions but it's a great opportunity to increase my knowledge and stay strong to my faith. I lately feel like some are my grandparents sometimes. We helped them with Family History and they helped us with feeding us haha. C is great! She loves the church so much and we are going to give a baptism invitation to her this week. We feel she will actually make the change and progress a lot faster of we extend a baptism invitation. We are super excited.

 

I love absolutely love South Shore. Members are great! Yesterday one member gave Sister Passey a hug and walked away in the parking lot. Imagine me with my arms wide open waiting for her to embrace my hug. She turned around, saw me, and ran to give me a hug and I think she wanted to pick me up. It was the sweetest hug ever.

 

Hugs are the best way to show love and all!
