Dear Mama,

It was so good to see you! I had such a great time skyping with you. I loved the wedding and it was amazing. I was lucky enough to have a one on one conversation with Danny! You have done such a great job. I love Danny a lot. He is such a great guy and I love him with all my heart. My companion Sister Lee thinks he is a gem. I totally agree with that.  I can't wait to meet him in person.

 

Transfer call came along and I am out! I am leaving Flushing. I don't know where I am going yet. Sister Hironaka is going to be a Sister Training Leader and I will most likely get put with Sister Johnson in Dkyer. Or else I go to a different program.... I don't know how I feel. I love Sister Lee but I am scared not knowing where I will go. But that led me to a scripture in 1 Nephi 4:6 And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do. I know that I am going where the Lord wants me to go.

On Tuesday, we went to the temple for a member from Dyker who got her endowment. That member really likes me and loves to talk with me so sweet! Anyway while we were waiting for our turn, Sister Lee and I happened to start talking and she was being so funny that I tried to contain my laughter. She then did something that made me blurt out and people thought I sneezed... "Bless you" sorry that was not reverent. But Sister Lee and I built that bond with each other.

 

LJ texted while we were at the temple. We have been teaching her. It first started with Sister Wang and Wang teaching and then Wang and Hironaka, then me and Hironaka. She couldn't get baptized because she didn't have a marriage certificate. We haven't met with her for a month because she didn't respond to our text messages. She texted us saying she has her marriage certificate. Sister Lee got to know her and thinks she is good and needs more preparation for baptism. Yay! 

 

Z is super amazing! I love her. She is pregnant and has been golden since the day we met. On Thursday she came in.  We had a lesson with her this past week. She sat down with us, she said, "I have decided to change my english name." Ok. "I want to change it to Smile." So cute why? "Because every time I come to the church and started meeting with you two, I can't help but smile." Awwww I freaking love her. Her baby is suppose to be due this week. Anyway, she brought her husband yesterday to church. He is the sweetest man ever. I hope everything will go good with the lessons.

Yes, I know Sean Lee. He and I became good friends. We talk whenever we see each other. My heart broke for him when I found out he had a tumor size of a soccer ball in his stomach. The mission did a 24 hours fast for him last week. It was a good experience. Elder Lee is such a great guy. I am proud of him being strong and positive.

Dear Hot Mama, future wife to be.

This is crazy, my mom is getting married?!?!  6 more days mama!  I feel like it's all a dream haha. Congratulation mom.

This past week was good:

So I was Exchanged out to Jamaica.... Anyway let's talk about the miracles that happened. I was with Sister Wheeler. She is a creole sister missionary and has been out for about 4 months. She had nothing planned for the day so we decided to fearless and do some look ups. We decided to fearless out in the park for the first time. We met a man sitting on the bench. Sister Wheeler told me she was shy so I told her that I was prompted that we should talk to him. We went up to him and Sister Wheeler just talked to him and shared the Easter video, "Because He Lives" the man was crying and he told us his story of his life. He said he was praying for someone to go to him and we showed up. He knew without a doubt that we were sent from God to him. We assigned him to the Astoria missionaries and hope he accepts.

 Then we did some look ups and found a lady. She wouldn't let us in at first because she was getting her apartment painted and then I saw one of the paintings, and asked, "Is that your painting?" She said yes and let us in. She showed us all of her artwork. We asked about her BOM reading and she hasn't read it. We testified how the BOM blessed our life. We asked her about coming to church, she said she is afraid to come because people already looked down at her and she doesn't want to feel that way again. But she was willing to let the missionaries come and sit down with her and read the BOM. She gave me her number because she wanted me to call her... Hehe she likes me.

We met with a lot of people who are from Haiti, I love how their countenance changed when we tell them that there is a temple being built in Haiti. They all said, "That was the answer to my prayers." Most of them were in Haiti when they had that earthquake. It was crazy! There was this one family who I love very dearly. The parents were less active. They have four kids and plan to adopt a girl who was violently abused. None of the kids were members. The mom wanted to go back to church and go into the temple. The 18 year old son asked what a temple was. We showed it to him. He said he wanted to get baptize and get married in the temple. But he planned to go on a mission. I told Sister Wheeler to focus on that family. I feel so special about them.

 I've enjoyed teaching English class. I decided to learn how to love it. One of our investigators is  funny! Anyway..... She comes to English class. I was talking about comparative like with er, est. So I taught weakest, weaker, weak, strong, stronger, strongest. I drew a picture from  a person with no muscle to a picture with a big muscle so they get the idea.... Well she said, "ooooh a man with a big muscle.... I just want to grab it!" I couldn't help but laugh. Then I talked about my family because they saw a picture of all of you. She saw Harper and said, "She is soooo cute that I want to eat her." Great..... Hide yo family, hide yo niece!

Iris's Baptism

So Iris got baptized yesterday along with 3 other people from the Chinese program! It was such an awesome experience!  Iris and L, our investigator,  have become such great friends. Yesterday after Iris got baptized, she was telling us that she planned to go shopping and eating out with L that day. Sister Lee and I looked at her and told her no and taught her about keeping the Sabbath Day Holy. They still decided to go because L said, "I am not baptized yet so I can go out but I can make sure Iris doesn't spend any money." Whatever..... They go out....

 L called, "Iris wants to know if she can buy food?" 

"No." 

"Iris wants to talk to you."

 "Ok" 

"Hi, this is Iris. I really have to buy food." 

"Ugh... Fine, just today!" 

"Thanks.... Hi, this is L." 

"Hi L"

"So Iris can't buy anything on Sunday." 

"Yup"

 "Okay, I will watch her from now on... I got you." 

Those two crack us up...

 

   




Then that night we had a Musical fireside. It was good even though almost the whole performance messed up but that's ok, through my deaf ears I could feel the spirit. I was able to perform. Elder McCabe played the piano, 12 year old Jessica Wu played the violin, and I signed. We played, " Lord, I would follow thee." It was a cool experience

I have a testimony of the gift of tongues. I feel like I understand what's being said in lessons but outside of lessons it's hard. Sister Lee and I have been on splits and exchanges and so I had to speak Chinese on my own. The environment is so different when you allow the spirit work in you. Sister Lee and I were on splits once and I had to teach two women. We had a Chinese member there too. So none of them spoke English except for me. The lesson was powerful. I know she knows this is true, I saw it in her eyes! I hope she can take action on it.

New York was getting warmer and now it's pouring. When the sun is shining people are more happier. But they tend to get more crazy haha. I have gone through some crazy dangerous experiences already. I've been spit on, yelled at, asked by men to marry them, grabbed in the arm by a drunk man, followed by drunk men, it's New York. I've seen people fighting, cars driving on the sidewalk instead of the street, guys with pants down at their knees thinking they are cool. It's an adventure everyday.

Elders are the best!

We were fearlessing on Saturday and I was talking to a great friend, Tony. He is a Christian but always help us with English class. A drunk man came up to me. I knew he was there because he was breathing against my neck. Tony was tense but I kept my eyes at him and tried to talk with him. The drunk man grabbed me by the arm. 3 elders went up against him and he let go and Tony and one of the elders stood in front of me. Awkward. Crazy moments are coming back.

I am so sorry about Mike. For some reason I just cried.... I just cried for all the kids too..... I am so sorry about the situation. I will pray for the family.

Hey Mom,

So yesterday was a good day, we had stake Conference. It was a great experience to be there. Elder Milan F. Kunz of the seventy was there. He asked all of us to write down questions we were pondering about. I wrote down my questions and luckily enough they were all answered! My favorite speakers was our Mission President, President Calderwood and Milan F. Kunz. President Calderwood talked about how we need to not just hear the doctrine of Christ, we need to take action of following the doctrine of Christ. So when we follow the path we become forever changed! I really love how he said that it's okay that we fall. We need to recognize the damage we have caused, then repent, we will feel that we have been forgiven, then we will feel God's love then have the desire to serve. We are all like Alma the younger in some way. We can have true conversion in the process of our life. The doctrine of Christ is real and the atonement is real and our heart can be changed!

 

Elder Kunz said, "Whatever you do, GLOW AND SMILE!" He talks about the importance of having personal study and how we can build relationship with our Heavenly Father and how we can build relationship with others. He asked us this question, "What are you going to do different?" My answer is... I have a lot to change, just put one foot in front of the other.  He then said, "I know you're going to be fine. The Lord is with you!" 

 

 

 

We then had a lesson with our special investigator. The spirit was definitely so strong in there. Sister Lee looks at me and said, "There are few lessons that you can feel the spirit but that spirit was so powerful in there." I looked at her and gave her a big hug. It was amazing! We scheduled for her to have a baptismal interview for Saturday so we asked Elder Chung and all the sudden he decided to interview her right after we had a lesson with her. Luckily she was up for it haha. So while she was in the interview with Elder Chung, Elder Johnson asked me and Sister Lee to join in the conversation with L. L is our investigator. We also had two members with us. It was the most funniest discussion ever. L was asking questions about Word Of Wisdom. She wanted to try alcohol, drugs and so forth. We tried to let her know that it was a bad idea. One of the recent converts from the Spanish branch who had problem with wow in the past said, "Don't do it! If you want to know what drugs are like go to the gym,then get on the treadmill, put on full speed, then get off, and walk." Then L said, "It won't be my last day if I try drugs" this recent convert said, "it would be your last day because I will kill you if you try drugs."We all laughed. That what makes her feel good about everything. Our investigator then finished her interview! Elder Chung looked at us and said, "SHE PASSED" we were so happy to hear that. 

 

I am grateful God has given us trials so we can learn and grow. Sometimes we feel alone and we don't know where to go and what to do. That is where we can turn to Him and let Him take you by the hand. We can start that by saying our prayers. I wanted to share my testimony about Prayer of Faith. Sometimes we pray and just do it. Sometimes we just go through the motions and not think about what we are doing. We need to TRULY talk with the Lord. I know that it so powerful when we actually talk with The Lord. I love the feeling I receive when praying and talking with Him. I can feel the true guidance. When we pray with faith we receive the spirit. I love and pray for all of you. There is not a day that goes by without thinking about you all. My heart is your heart.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We had interviews with President. This man is the most inspiring man ever! He talked with me about a lot of things.  One of the first things he asked me was, "How do you feel about transferring to another program?" I looked at him and said, "If this is what The Lord wants me to do, I will go." He was filled with joy and said he was happy to hear about that. He then said, "I feel inspired to transfer you to a different language program, whether it be english or ASL or Spanish, I don't know but I will inquire of The Lord and see where he wants you to go. He may have you stay in the Chinese Program." So I may not be staying in the Chinese program any longer. I don't know. We will see what happens. He did tell me that there are two new Chinese speaking sister missionaries coming, Sister Tsin and Sister Young. He said that if I stay I would have a huge responsibility of leadership for them. He knows and trusts that I can do either way. I am nervous for the transfer call but I know that I will be fine either way.

 

He then said, "Tell me about your future with college. I feel that you need to go to USU." Well he is already starting to think about my future haha! I am a little sad because President is finishing his mission soon in July.  President was like a dad to me and I can always feel his love.

My view right now

My language has been out of the roof lately and I am grateful for the gift of tongues. I am grateful how the spirit works. So I was on exchanges on Thursday and I had to teach in Chinese. I taught her full blown Chinese and she asked some hard questions, luckily enough the spirit was there and helped me understand her. It's crazy because when I talk to Chinese people I can't understand but in lessons, that is a whole different story! It was such a powerful lesson. My exchange comp looked at me and said, "I have never felt the spirit so powerful in a lesson before." The spirit was definitely there.

 

Thank you for letting me know how Jacqueline is doing! She wrote me the sweetest letter ever. I missed that girl so much! I am so excited for her to go on a mission!
 

 Thank you so much for writing me a whole letter about how to overcome my struggles.  Sometimes it's hard to think about perspective. Changing perspective changes things. I will definitely take your advice on changing myself and my perspective. I will definitely work on that for the rest of my mission! Thanks mom!

Dear Mom,

 This past week was a really good week.

 We went and visited our relief society president. She invited
us over to lunch. It was such a blessing to be there with her. We got
to know her and I am grateful for her example. She explained how she
got to know the church and how it took her 3 years to get baptized. She
taught about she met her husband and how he was a bishop for 7
years before I showed up. She is a funny woman with a sweet heart.  We
decided to work together to increase the attendance of church.

We taught our other investigator. We decided to treat her with lunch and a movie,
 "Joseph Smith" After the movie, she kept asking questions. "Joseph went through that?" We
answered, "Yes" she was amazed with Joseph's life and she didn't know
he died young. We testified about Joseph and he has never wavered in his
faith even when life gets tough. We testified how we wanted to be like
him. I could see her countenance change into something better.  I love
her with all my heart.

We met with A LA It was such a powerful and interesting lesson.
Powerful because the spirit was there and interesting because she was
teaching us. She works at the MTC as an "Investigator" and she was
talking about how specific missionaries can or cannot grab attention.
Sister Lee was explaining how it was easy for me to grab attention of
others. The lady explained that I was disabled and Chinese people are
amazed that I could speak Chinese through my deafness. She uses the
analogy that I never thought I would have used and it was so cool to
see her perspective. She used the analogy of David and the Goliath.
Goliath is a very very very large man and David is a tiny little boy.
David's disability  was being small but God made him look large and
overcome Goliath. Just like how God used my deafness to show blessing
to others. We all have disabilities in some ways and let God show forth
his power and blessings by using you and your disability. Thought that
was epic!

We taught English Class. I remember when I said that I hate English
Class. Well...  I love it! I was teaching english and they were
helping me improve on my Chinese. Sister Lee got up to talk with
Shreeve and Andersen. I was having fun! I love my students and we just
laugh and enjoy our time! I was glad I was helping them learn new
words and it was great to see their smile and help them accomplish
something. I felt God had answered my prayer for developing the gift
of teaching. I had passion for that today. We finished with English
Class and Sister pulled me aside and said, "You did so good! Sister
Shreeve and Andersen and I were talking about how amazed we were with
you! We are amazed that you're deaf and how you can speak and
understand Chinese." Sister Andersen came up to me and gave me a big
hug and said, "you're one of the most inspirational people I have ever
met." I know God has been helping me to become a better person and
develop better skills at teaching. That was a blessing to me!




We passed M off to someone in Bayshore. I will miss her a
lot. She is such a blessing in my life. She has gone through a lot in
her life, but her faith remains strong! So she will be going to English
branch near her home, she doesn't have to come 1.5 hours all the way
out here. We will try and go to her baptism! I am proud of her!

I really loved Gerald Causse's talk in General Conference. The spirit
was so strong when I heard him speak! He really emphasized a lot on
remembering and not forgetting. We have seen so many miracles and
blessings in this mortal life but we are soon to forget them because
of our trials, struggles, hardship, and focusing on what the world
thinks of us. Few weeks ago I challenged myself to write the blessings
and miracles God have done for me or for others which I see through my
own eyes. I can't tell you how much joy and happiness I feel when
writing and reading the things in my gratitude journal. When I do that
my spiritual sense has increased and I have come to realize that
blessings have never ceased from us! The word "Cease" is an imagined
word that appeared in our minds. We just need to hear with our ears
open and see with our eyes open.

One of our investigators changed her baptism date from May 9 to April 19.  We feel that she is ready and her testimony is so strong and she has such a great testimony of the gospel.  I am so happy for her.  She and I have become such good friends.




      
           








Few months ago we have two men from the general authorities speak to us.
They said that as soon as we go home we need to get married and have a
family. General Conference emphasized a lot on family. Sister Lee and I
were like "what the heck?" So I am a little scared to go home haha!



Sister Lee was just amazing. She truly has the gift of love and
caring. She never ceases to amaze me and I am lucky that I have her as
my companion. She is a joy and happiness to this mission! I can't wait
for you to meet her mom! She is fantastic!

My Easter was very good! We watched General Conference at the church and ate the goodies that Sister Lee's mom sent us. A lot of our investigators showed up, so that was cool!  We ate Chinese food at a member's house. It was really good! We ate with a few of the members from the ward and we had a testimony meeting so that was cool!
